Welcome to Tekne Gymnastics
At Tekne Gymnastics we understand how early physical training has a proven impact on children’s development. It is our aim to teach in a fun, safe and nurturing environment that promotes confident, happy, young athletes. We take our craft very seriously as we know this is a really important time for our pupils.
Please see details of our upcoming events and class information below:
Tekne Easter Camp
We will be running our Easter camp from April 3rd - 6th and April 9th - 13th, 2018 at Haverstock School
Our team is made up of professional tumblers, choreographers as well as trampoline and gymnastics experts. The sessions are well structured and the children will learn a large amount in this comprehensive week. Through fun, children are encouraged to go through a series of foundational levels as they learn to strengthen their skills and sharpen their talents.
We have trampolines, an inflatable tumble track, various soft play gymnastics floors to practice key skills like cartwheels, round-offs, handstands, back walkovers, back handsprings, vaulting, bars, beam and more!
If you have a budding gymnast stuck on a move, this is a great way to get them to advance or if you have a bouncing monkey at home who has never done gymnastics before this is a really fun introduction to the sport.
With games and challenges for all abilities, this holiday camp welcomes children at all levels from 3yrs to 16yrs old.
Summer Term 2018
We have classified our classes as follows: Tumblies, Springers, Bouncers (Beginners), Bouncers (Intermediate), Bouncers (Advanced), Jumpers, Jumpers and Twisters, all classes are based more on ability than age, so please contact Susi for more information.
All our gymnasts are assessed at regular intervals and as their abilities develop, they will have the opportunity to move on to the next class.
Tumblies (Age 3)Saturdays 11.45am held at Haverstock School
These are our infant beginner classes where we teach through stories, songs and games and is a really fun lesson where we start the structure of training. There are many important first lessons, like turn taking and fun interaction. On the technical side, all the shapes, rolls and movements are directly related to gymnastics moves. It is the most exciting class and the results of training come almost immediately. These classes are based primarily on age.
Springers (Age 4 & 5) Saturdays 12.30pm held at Haverstock School
Bouncers (Beginners) (Age 5+) Mondays 5.30pm, Tuesdays 5.15pm held at The Village School and Saturdays 1.30pm held at Haverstock School
The stretches and progressions for moves are more obvious. Experience with apparatus has a strong part to play. These kind of exercises at this age are crucial in building body awareness, control and thus confidence.
Bouncers (Intermediate) (Age 5+) Saturdays 2.30pm held at Haverstock School
This class focuses on further building on the core aspects of gymnastics, such as strength, shape and flexibility in order to develop more complex acrobatic skills. The class structure is very similar to that of the beginners and advanced classes, with different set ups aimed at this focus groups specific progression needs.
Bouncers (Advanced) (Age 5+) Saturdays 3.30pm held at Haverstock School
Twisters (Age 10+) Thursdays at Haverstock School 6pm / Saturdays at SHHS 11am
This class is all about consolidating progressions into skills. The classes are much more structured, designed to increase skill, strength, flexibility and stamina ready for more advanced skills, and there are drills to help children find their potential. We strive to have a very good teacher to pupil ratio so each gymnast receives the coaching they need to fulfil their potential.
THE FOLLOWING CLASSES ARE HELD AT SOUTH HAMPSTEAD HIGH SCHOOL
Junior Squad classes - Thursdays from 4.30pm - 6pm (held at Haverstock School and Saturdays from 9am - 11am (held at SHHS)
Senior Squad classes – Tuesdays from 6.30pm - 8.30pm and Saturdays from 11am - 1pm
These classes are invite only. Gymnasts should be able to complete different elements in order to be invited to join these classes which are directed on a more challenging route. New gymnasts would need to be assessed before being invited to join these classes.
